Sometimes, the best days start with a little chaos. Take yesterday, for instance. My drive into London began with a torrential downpour. I mean, it was an absolute deluge.
But here’s the twist.
By the time I parked up, the rain had vanished, and the sun peeked through the clouds. London weather, you’re a real surprise artist, aren’t you?
My day had a purpose: an appointment. But, being the explorer at heart, I couldn’t resist the urge to wander. I always opt for the backstreets, where the city unveils its hidden gems – charming mews and cozy cafes, minus the bustling crowds.
And guess what?
The sun decided to stick around, and the streets had dried up nicely. So, my friend and I found ourselves basking in the warm glow, feeling like we had conquered the world.
We ended up near one of our favourite spots, just off Carnaby Street – the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs. A sip of coffee to quench our thirst and off we went again. A few stores beckoned, but the heat made us rethink our shopping spree.
Time for a pitstop.
Lunch at Riding House Cafe was the perfect choice. With the weather so beautiful, we snagged a table outside. We sipped fancy Coca Colas, indulged in some catching up, and patiently awaited our feast.
And feast we did, sharing an array of dishes because, honestly, who goes to a restaurant and orders just one thing? Not us.
Post-feasting, we did a bit more strolling, only stopping briefly at Muji. I couldn’t resist picking up a few essential oils for my diffuser. Self-care, right?
(oh and you need these COS loafers, they are the softest leather, so comfy)
The day was flying by, and I had to head back home before London’s infamous rush hour clogged up the streets.
Spoiler alert: I didn’t make it in time. Those London streets are relentless, especially during the evening rush.
But finally, I arrived back home, no later than 6 pm. Yes, this is what being in your 30s looks like, and let me tell you, I absolutely love it. The cherry on top was getting to feed my adorable kitties.
That’s the thing about a beautiful day in the city: it can start with a downpour but end with pure contentment.
