So, my friend’s birthday was coming up, and we wanted to make it special. After some brainstorming (and a serious craving for high tea), we settled on The Connaught in Mayfair. Our reservation was set for 2:30 pm, giving us the morning to hit the gym, get things organized, and knock out some work before glamming up.
Let me tell you, Jean Georges at The Connaught is stunning. It’s right at the front of the hotel, with massive windows that fill the place with gorgeous natural light. Of course, we went for high tea with a glass of bubbly, but they also have a lunch menu that looked amazing (we got a sneak peek from the kitchen). Definitely considering it for a return visit.
Tea Time
First things first, we picked our tea and champagne. Then, the drinks arrived. I went for jasmine tea, but if your initial choice doesn’t tickle your taste buds, they’re cool with you switching. The sandwich platters came out next, one for each of us, featuring a selection of 5. The chef’s tip: eat from left to right. The chicken was a standout, but since most of us hadn’t eaten all day, we threw in some chips to share.
Scones and Sweets
After sandwiches, chips, tea, and champagne, we were already stuffed. But then came the high tea cakes. We couldn’t resist. The blueberry and pineapple tarts were showstoppers, but nothing beats a freshly baked, warm scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam (they had apricot jam too, but I’m a sucker for the classics).
With our tummies full, we strolled over to Harrods. Jewellery was a must-try, and we stumbled upon the champagne bar tucked away in one of the beauty rooms. It was a birthday, so why not? They started us off with a palate cleanser, and we opted for rose champagne. Surprisingly, it hit the spot.
Next, we ventured to the Baccarat Bar on the lower ground floor. A super knowledgeable mixologist whipped up a cocktail tailored to my taste (mine involved dust made from Jamón ibérico, how cool is that?). More snacks, including mac n cheese balls, followed.
By the time we were done, we were stuffed to the brim, leaving just as the store was closing. It was a day filled with fun, laughter, and a touch of opulence, leaving my friend extremely fulfilled and satisfied.
